Enhancing the Performance of Polyester Film-Based Laminations

Enhancing the Performance of Polyester Film-Based Laminations

Polyester films are widely used in flexible laminations. In the case of extrusion laminations, the extrudate-to-polyester film interface can sometimes be the weakest link in the structure. When chemical and/or water-resistance are important performance criteria, the integrity of that interface can determine the difference between success or failure. Extrusion coating studies with various polyester film types, extrudate resin choices, and primers have been conducted and the resulting integrity of that interface is presented in terms of bond strengths, moisture and chemical resistance.
