Over the decades of Tedlar® polyvinyl fluoride film use in various industrial atmospheres, a series of troubleshooting methods have been found to determine the root cause for adhesion failures. An effective method for understanding these failures are Identifying which rolls are impacted. With adhesion, there are many methods to define passing/non-passing adhesion. A common understanding of the test that customer and supplier employ is important. Identification of tESCA has proven to be quite effective with Tedlar® films to identify the type of failure (cohesive versus adhesive), surface contamination , and film adhesion treatment. ESCA examines the chemistry of surfaces angstroms deep which then can be compared to film retains to understand differences. he defect location ,repeating pattern, and the nature of the defect helps to eliminate variables .
