Sequential Manufacturing Technologies for Advanced Packaging Materials

Manufacturing technology for the creation of multi-layer and multi component webs for flexible and rigid packaging is a rapidly changing industry. Line speeds of 400 to 700 MPM are becoming common for extrusion lamination machines for commodity packaging. How these speeds lead to higher productivity goals and ultimately lower cost for the converter will be explored along with the improved quality levels exhibited as well. New manufacturing technology will be explored which sequentially combine various processes to create complex multi-layer products. These machines combine solution coating with extrusion coating; cast film with extrusion coating and sheet production with extrusion coating. Here, one line may create unique, high value composite webs with many layers and materials. We will review these new developments and how they can be applied.
