Retail and bulk flexible packaging of liquids is projected to grow due to a number of benefits of this package format. With the increased demand and variety of liquids packaged comes the need to enable ease of pour and completeness of evacuation. Film surfaces were modified using masterbatches with surface active agents and behavior of several food and personal care liquids with a range of viscosities, were evaluated. Methodologies were developed to assess liquid movement efficiency as well as residue retained on the surface. Based on the data, promising results are seen in facilitating liquid movement and minimizing residue with select functional surfaces.
